Learn the beautiful game of American Mahjong with this fun, approachable two-class introduction! Whether you’ve never touched a tile or you’ve played casually and want a clearer understanding, this series will give you the confidence to sit down and play.
MAHJONG 101 — SUNDAY, JANUARY 4th · 2-4 pm
We’ll begin with all the essentials:
- A simple overview of how American Mahjong works
- Learning each tile and how to recognize the suits
- How to read the current Mahjong card
- Understanding the deal
- Step-by-step Charleston practice
- Beginner-friendly guided play
MAHJONG 102 — SUNDAY, JANUARY 11th · 2–4 PM
In the second session, we’ll build on what you learned and shift into gameplay and confidence:
- Review of 101
- How to call tiles
- Exposures and when to make them
- When to change hands
- Basic strategy
- Multiple rounds of instructor-led play
We’ll have light refreshments to nibble on while we play, and you’re more than welcome to BYOB and make it a fun Sunday outing. Your instructor for the series is Rachel French, co-owner of The Kitchen C+C, who can’t wait to teach you the basics and cheer you on as you discover your new favorite hobby!
